Welcome to our website! I hope that you enjoy browsing its pages and finding out about our remarkable pupils, staff and animals!
Bishop Cornish C of E (V.A.) Primary School is situated in beautiful grounds overlooking the River Tamar with views over Dartmoor and the city of Plymouth.
The school provides a wide and varied creative curriculum. There is a wide range of after school clubs on offer for the children, including football, tag rugby, multi skills, gym, athletics, Latin, chess etc. Teams enjoy success in tag rugby, athletics, football, high fives and many other sports. We have a strong musical tradition with orchestra, junk band, samba band and voice clubs. A large number of children play orchestral instruments.
The school has its own animal centre, comprising goats, geese, chickens, ducks, turkeys, doves, rabbits and guinea pigs! The children are very involved with the animals’ care during breaks and lunch time, and the animals and children won a considerable amount of awards at the Royal Cornwall Show in 2010 /2011 and the Liskeard show in 2012.
There are strong links with the local churches of St. Stephen’s and SS Nicholas and Faith, and the Diocese of Truro.
Opened in 2010, our Education Centre is an exciting development – an eco-friendly, sustainable building using cedar wood, straw bales, sheep’s wool, etc. and with a water harvesting system and photovoltaic panels – has recently been completed, following extensive fundraising. This is used by the school for creative arts, before and after school provision, and for a pre-school (nursery) unit. It was opened by HRH the Countess of Wessex and blessed by the Bishop of Truro in early March 2010. It won the Royal Institute of Chartered surveyors’ South West Region Award for Community Benefit in 2010.
The school is actively involved in community projects. The children are keen to support people less fortunate than themselves. I hope you enjoy browsing our pages and seeing what our children do.
